In addition to purchasing a start-up franchise in a new territory area, Right at Home can also periodically offer the opportunity to buy an existing business as a going concern. As a franchise network matures, Franchise Resales play an important role in helping established Franchise Owners work towards their ideal exit strategy, while offering an entry route to people who would prefer to scale up an existing business, rather than building from scratch.

Why Consider a Resale?

Our resales are valued on a multiple of the operating profit (EBITDAR), which is an industry-standard method of calculation.

Care franchises will typically present a Share Sale opportunity – this means you purchase the whole Limited Company, including all staff, Clients and – importantly – the Regulatory Registration and Rating. This is a legal requirement for our sector, and can take upwards of 3-4 months to put in place for a start-up, so one big advantage of a resale is that you can hit the ground running.

While every sale is subject to a ‘willing buyer, willing seller’ approach, one big advantage of buying a Right at Home franchise is that as Franchisor, we will ensure any proposed deal is fair to both parties and based upon an independent business valuation.

How does RaH support with buying an existing franchise?

1. We ensure Right at Home businesses sell for a fair price, based upon an independent business valuation by a qualified sector specialist.

2. We work alongside the Buyer and Seller, and their advisors, to support a smooth process from evaluation, through to due diligence and completion.

3. We ensure anyone buying an existing franchise receives the same first-class onboarding support and training as all new franchisees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why start a home care franchise rather than go independent?

Both routes can be rewarding. The difference is how much support, structure, and risk you want to take on as you grow.

Going independent offers full control over branding and decision-making, but also means building everything yourself. That includes securing registration with regulators, maintaining compliant policies and procedures. It also involves recruiting and training your team, and putting systems and marketing in place. Funding can also be more challenging, as lenders often require clear evidence of viability and a proven operating framework.

Franchising offers a more supported route. You run your own business, but within an established model and structured framework that is already aligned to regulatory requirements, with clear guidance through registration and ongoing compliance. Right at Home Franchise Owners also find that banks and lenders are significantly more comfortable funding a business backed by our recognised brand and successful trading history.

The right choice depends on your experience, appetite for risk, and how much reassurance and support you want as a business owner.

How does franchising work?

Franchising allows you to run your own business using the systems, brand, and support of an established organisation.

You operate independently, employ your own team, and serve your local area, while utilising a proven framework. This is set out in a franchise agreement, which includes an initial fee and ongoing payments that fund training, support, systems and network-building initiatives and partnerships.

Day to day, you lead the business and build local relationships. The franchisor provides tools and resources, maintains standards, and supports consistency across the network.

At Right at Home, franchising is built around long-term partnership, helping owners operate confidently while making a positive impact locally.

Why is homecare a good sector for franchising?

Homecare is shaped by long-term social change rather than short-term trends.

As the population ages, more people need support to live safely and independently at home. Demand is consistent, non-seasonal, and less affected by economic cycles than many sectors.

Franchising works well in homecare because it combines local leadership with shared expertise in a regulated environment. Structured support helps owners maintain quality, compliance, and consistency.

What skills are needed to operate a homecare franchise?

You don’t need a background in care, but you do need strong leadership and people management skills.

Successful owners are able to recruit and support teams, follow established systems, and operate confidently in a regulated environment. Financial awareness, organisation, and attention to detail are important.

Relationship-building also plays a key role, from working with Clients and families to developing local professional connections. We also offer coaching and mentoring to help Franchise Owners become leaders among their peers in the network.

Above all, the role suits people who lead with empathy, resilience, and clear communication.

What ongoing support will I receive from National Office?

Support starts here with your discovery process and continues throughout the life of your franchise.

You’ll receive a structured induction programme, tailored start-up support, and guidance through regulatory registration. As your business grows, support evolves across compliance, quality, recruitment, marketing, and business development.

You’ll receive a structured induction programme, guidance through regulatory registration AND tailored start-up support across compliance, quality, recruitment, marketing, and business development.

As your business grows, support evolves to help you overcome growth obstacles, achieve your long-term goals and eventually deliver a great return on your initial investment.

You’ll also be part of a national franchise network, with access to peer support, shared learning from top performers, and opportunities to shape the future of the brand.

The focus is on collaboration – giving you structure and reassurance while allowing you to lead locally.

How much do I need to invest?

The total investment can be up to £145,000; this includes the initial franchise fee, which is £33,500 +VAT and up to £100,000 working capital, to support the business in its early days, until it becomes profitable.

The start-up fee includes access to the brand and systems, exclusive territory rights, comprehensive training, and a full package of the deliverables you'll need to open your office.

Subject to status, many owners fund part of their investment through finance, typically requiring around £45,000 in liquid capital.

As part of the recruitment process, we provide access to independent business planning support to help you understand the investment in full and assess whether it’s the right fit for you.

Do I need a background in care?

No. You don’t need previous experience in the care sector to become a Right at Home franchise owner. Many owners join us from backgrounds such as management, sales, healthcare, or the public sector. In fact, 95% of Right at Home franchisees didn’t have previous experience in domiciliary care until they joined us.

What matters most is the ability to lead a business, manage people, and uphold high standards in a regulated environment. It is also essential to be passionate about delivering exceptional care and driven to make a difference in your community and the lives of others. You’ll be supported with structured training, clear guidance, and ongoing support to help you build the knowledge and confidence needed to run your homecare business well.

What is a franchise agreement?

A franchise agreement is the formal contract between you and the franchisor. It sets out the terms of your relationship, including your right to operate under the brand, your responsibilities as a franchise owner, and the support you’ll receive in return.

The agreement covers key areas such as the length of the franchise term, territory rights, fees, standards to be maintained, and how the brand and systems are used. It’s designed to protect both parties and provide clarity, consistency, and confidence as you build your business.

At Right at Home, the franchise agreement reflects our long-term, partnership-led approach. It is designed to support sustainable growth, maintain high standards across the network, and give owners the structure and reassurance they need to lead their business with confidence.

Is home care a profitable business?

Demand for care at home continues to grow as more people choose to live independently for longer, which gives the sector long-term relevance. However, like any business, outcomes depend on how it is operated.

Success in homecare is influenced by factors such as leadership, recruitment, retention, compliance, local market conditions, and the ability to build strong relationships with Clients and families. A quality-led approach, clear systems, and consistent standards all play an important role.

Through franchising, business owners benefit from an established model, shared expertise, and structured support, which can help create a more sustainable and well-managed operation. That said, there are no guarantees, and financial performance will vary between territories and owners.

At Right at Home, we focus on supporting franchise owners to build high-quality, well-run businesses with healthy operating profit margins. During the recruitment process, we share conservative financial projections and help you understand the assumptions behind them, so you can make an informed decision based on your own goals and circumstances.

Can I run a care agency from home?

In the early planning stages, the start-up process can be managed remotely. But UK care regulators require you to operate from business premises once registered.

Right at Home will help you identify suitable premises and our in-house recruitment team will work with you to find a Registered Manager with the experience, values and attitude needed to support your business through the early years.

Homecare agencies are required to meet regulatory standards, support a team of Carers, manage confidential records, and provide a clear point of contact for Clients, families, and professionals. An office environment helps support compliance, team coordination, training, and day-to-day operations.

At Right at Home, the franchise model is designed around operating from a business premises and employing a Registered Manager from the outset. This structure supports high standards, effective leadership, and a professional service for the local community.
