Frequently Asked Questions

What is personal care at home?

Personal care provides discreet support with daily routines and personal hygiene, helping you or your loved one to stay comfortable, confident, and independent at home.

At Right at Home, our personal care services cover a range of everyday tasks that may feel private or sensitive, such as washing, dressing, grooming, mobility assistance, eating and drinking, skin and oral care. Our fully trained Carers deliver one-to-one support with the utmost respect, ensuring dignity is always preserved.

Whether you need a little extra help to start the day, ongoing support throughout the week, or more specialist assistance, we tailor our care to your individual needs and preferences — empowering you to live life your way while addressing your personal care needs with empathy and expertise.

What services does personal care include?

Personal care services relate specifically to personal hygiene. We can support you or your loved one with bathing and shower assistance, personal grooming, oral hygiene and more. Above all, personal homecare includes services designed to preserve modesty and dignity.

How much do personal care services cost?

The price of our at-home personal care services will depend on the Client’s individual needs and the number of hours of care provided. We recommend a minimum of one hour for any care visit to provide safe and effective care provision. But we can discuss how regularly you’d like these visits before providing an estimated cost of care.

Please contact your local Right at Home office to discuss your requirements and personal budget.

What makes a good personal Carer?

Our care professionals are all trained in the latest safety techniques to assist physically during personal care. We help Clients to maintain their modesty at a level they feel comfortable with.

All of our Carers participate in a thorough induction training programme before becoming personal care providers. Every member of our team benefits from regular refresher training and quality checks to ensure a consistently high standard of care.

How do you provide personal care to the elderly?

Personal homecare is, at its very core, personal. So the level of care we offer to elderly people will depend on their preferences and independent capabilities. For more specific information about our care services for elderly people, take a look at our elderly care offering.

If you are tending to the personal hygiene needs of an elderly loved one yourself, you may want to explore our respite care services. Our Carers offer a well-deserved break to family carers.

However long it lasts, we aim to make the temporary change in circumstances as easy for you as possible.

What do personal care workers do?

Personal Carers visit you at home to provide physical support with the activities of daily living. Their support is designed to help you maintain good hygiene. Of course, they can also offer valuable companionship and support as a trusted friend. Your Carer will follow an agreed care plan, so that they only do as much as you feel comfortable with.

What happens if my needs change?

We regularly review care plans to ensure you are receiving the right level of support. If your needs change, we’ll adapt the plan accordingly to make sure you continue to get the care you require.

Can you provide personal care for somebody living with dementia?

We understand that personal care can feel particularly sensitive for someone living with dementia, especially when feelings of confusion, anxiety or embarrassment arise around tasks such as bathing, dressing or toileting. Our Carers approach every situation with patience and understanding, always taking the time to ease anxieties and build trust.

Through thorough training, our Carers learn to recognise and respond to signs of distress or discomfort. They use gentle encouragement and thoughtful support, helping your loved one to feel safe, respected and at ease. Whether that means giving extra space, offering a calm demonstration, or simply working at their pace, we focus on making every interaction as positive and reassuring as possible.
